Redmond Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a person suspected of passing out counterfeit $100 bills at local businesses and a bank.

Police sent out a photo of the person in a press release Thursday.

Police began learning about the counterfeit bills within the past week, said Lt. Eric Beckwith. At least four businesses have been impacted, but police are withholding the names of the businesses due to the ongoing investigation.

Police said that the bills passed tests to detect counterfeiting, which include holding a note to a light to check for a security thread that reads “USA 100” to the left of Benjamin Franklin’s portrait. Police said the person being sought asked for change for the $100 bill “several times.”

At U.S. Bank on SW Sixth Street, officials identified five counterfeit $100 bills in the past two days.

Police are encouraging businesses to visit the KnowYourMoney.pdf on secretservice.gov to see how to identify counterfeit money. Those who find counterfeit money should contact police at 541-693-6911 with descriptions of a vehicle or a person who tried to pass the bills.
