A man is suspected of breaking into a Bend business, trashing the place and then slamming a door on a police dog while trying to escape law enforcement Friday morning, Bend Police said.

Officers shocked Nathan McCrary, 38, with a Taser, arrested him and booked him in to the Deschutes County jail, according to Bend Police spokeswoman Sheila Miller. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree burglary, third-degree escape and assaulting a law enforcement animal.

Police responded to a reported robbery around 8:40 a.m. Friday. The owner of My Lucky House, a property management firm, had arrived and found his front window smashed, police said.

The business owner went inside and found the suspect — who police identified as McCrary — sleeping on the couch and called 911, police said. When police arrived. McCrary came to the door but wouldn’t comply with police commands and went back inside.

Police said the business was trashed, and they could hear McCrary throwing things around inside. McCrary came back to the door and still wouldn’t comply, so police released a dog named Harry.

The dog did not bite McCrary, but he slammed the door on the animal while trying to get away, police said.
