- A Bend Police Department patrol vehicle is parked in front of the Deschutes County Courthouse in Bend in January.
A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Friday morning after police say he was speeding and then crashed his Tesla into the retaining wall of a Bend bank.
Alejandro Mayorga, 24, was in the Deschutes County jail, facing charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless endangering and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to the jail roster.
Bend Police responded to the reported crash at around 8 a.m. Friday, according to spokeswoman Sheila Miller.
Police reviewed video footage, which they say showed a white Tesla driving more than 60 mph while heading south in the northbound lanes and sidewalk on NE Third Street in Bend.
The Tesla crashed at the entrance to the US Foods Chef’Store on Third Street, rolled “multiple times” and stopped at the retaining wall at U.S. Bank.
The driver, who police identified as Mayorga, was taken to the hospital for a blood draw before he was booked in the county jail.
Mayorga has a history of driving violations.
In 2019, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants, hit-and-run and fourth-degree assault. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants and recklessly endangering another person.
