- Mountain View’s Jackson Potts, top, won the 175-pound weight class at Reser's Tournament of Champions on Friday in Hillsboro.
Three Central Oregon wrestlers won their weight classes at the Reser’s Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Hillsboro.
What makes the TOC unique compared with the state wrestling tournament is that there are no classifications that break up the brackets. It is the best against the best no matter the size of the school.
Mountain View’s Jackson Potts and Scout Santos, along with Bend High’s Leif Larwin, all won their weight classes at the two-day tournament at Liberty High School.
Santos won the 132-pound bracket with three of his five matches ending in pins. Santos took down Newberg’s Gavin Rangel in the finals with a 3-2 decision.
For the second year in a row, Potts was the last wrestler standing at Reser’s. Last year he won the 160-pound weight class, and on Saturday he won the 175-pound weight class with two pins and then a 7-0 decision over Harrisburg’s Brody Buzzard in the championship match.
Larwin, a freshman, used three consecutive pins to advance to the championship round of the 165-pound weight class, where he then beat West Linn’s Lucas Gray 7-0 to win the title.
Two local teams finished in the top 10. Crook County was the highest-scoring Central Oregon team, placing sixth with 119.5 points, followed by Mountain View, which finished eighth with 116.5 points.
