- Solar panels can be seen on the rooftops in the Northwest Cottages community, built through Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, in 2023. The homes in the community are built to net-zero standards.
Bend City Council on Wednesday unanimously voted to allow Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity and Thistle & Nest to purchase two city-owned land parcels.
The properties located on NE Franklin Avenue and NE Bear Creek Avenue will be sold for approximately $20,000 each following a proposal by the two nonprofit developers to create 26 new affordable homes for those making 80% or less of the area median income.
Habitat for Humanity and Thistle & Nest’s vision for the new development is to create consciously-built net-zero homes with low-water and functional landscaping. The houses will be a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes with a minimum of four homes built to universal accessibility standards.
The developers plan to tentatively break ground on the project in 2026 with the first homes ready to be sold in 2026. Anyone interested in purchasing these homes can check their qualifications and add themselves to a contact list by emailing homeownership@brhabitat.org.
