Police pursuit near Bend High put school briefly in secure status

Bend High School was placed briefly in what the district refers to as secure status Friday afternoon around 3:10 p.m., said officials.

Bend Police were responding to a mental health crisis near NE Fourth Street and NE Clay Avenue when the person ran away in the area. on foot.

The person was subsequently taken into custody, but the school resource officer placed the school into secure status for three to five minutes, said Sheila Miller, police department communications manager.

Under secure status, exterior doors are locked. There was never any danger at the school.
