- Blair Borax 2022
According to Wikipedia’s disambiguation page, Borax is a bunch of different things: A mineral. A ghost town in Nevada. An American business magnate. A brand of cleaner. A series of safety experiments involving nuclear reactors in the mid-20th century.
Interesting!
Add to that list Blair Borax, a singer-songwriter based in Portland who will play Bend’s Silver Moon Brewing Friday night. Blessed with a distinctive singing voice that recalls a vintage jazz singer, Borax writes charming and thoughtful folk-pop songs that should appeal to fans of top-shelf artists such as Regina Spektor and Big Thief’s Adrienne Lenker.
Borax released her debut album in 2022 and followed it up on Feb. 2 with her new one, “Tender Lately,” which is well-crafted, melodically generous and “leaves the listener with gentle reminders to quiet the inner critic, find joy in small things, and embrace the precious brevity of our time on Earth,” according to Borax’s website.
Another big week at Volcanic Theatre Pub
That sounds like good advice. Let’s embrace brevity and end there, but not before noting that there are two openers for this show and both are worth checking out. Get there on time, in other words!
Blair Borax, with Acoustic Minds and Shaene Marie Pascal: 7 p.m. Friday, $10, Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, silvermoonbrewing.com.
