Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is going to get paid in 2024.

Smith, whose $12.7 million base salary for 2024 will be guaranteed on Friday, was told on Thursday by the team he will not be released before that date, ensuring he will receive his full salary for the 2024 season, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

While the Seahawks will not cut Smith, there’s still a chance he will get traded before March 18. Smith will receive a $9.6 million roster bonus on March 18. If the Seahawks retain Smith beyond March 18, they will commit $22.5 million (he also will receive a $200,000 workout bonus) to him for the 2024 season.

Smith, 33, produced a career year in 2022, when he replaced longtime starter Russell Wilson, who was traded to the Denver Broncos.

Smith’s status as the starting quarterback for 2024 could be in question after a change in coaches. Mike Macdonald is the new head coach after Pete Carroll was transitioned to an advisory role.
