The National Weather Service recommends motorists keep the following in their car while driving in winter conditions:

– A flashlight with extra batteries or a hand-crank flashlight

– A phone charger

– A tow rope

– A bag of sand or cat litter to increase traction

– A shovel, ice scraper and snow brush

– A blanket and extra warm-weather clothing

– Water and snacks

– A first aid kit

– Jumper cables

– Tire chains if you do not have snow tires

– Flares

In addition to the above items, they recommend traveling with a full tank of gas or a fully charged battery for electric cars.
