Nearly one month after the Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways with backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the Buffalo Bills—one of his former teams—are reportedly “in talks to reunite” with the backup, per The Athletic’s Tim Graham.

The new league year begins March 13, meaning the Bills could sign Trubisky any time after that date if interest exists between both parties.

Trubisky spent just one season with the Bills in 2021, serving as Josh Allen’s backup. He never started a game but did appear in six contests.

The former No. 2 draft pick played for the Steelers the last two seasons but couldn’t solve the team’s struggle to find a consistent quarterback. Trubisky began the 2022 NFL season as the Steelers’ starter for four games before he was placed in the backup position behind Kenny Pickett. 

Pittsburgh signed Trubisky to a two-year extension before the 2023 NFL season but decided to end that after the quarterback’s sub-par performances. In five games (two starts) last season, Trubisky threw for 632 yards with five interceptions and four touchdown passes, adding up to a 71.9 quarterback rating.

His poor play during a Week 14 loss to the New England Patriots led to Pittsburgh fans chanting for third-string quarterback Mason Rudolph to start instead.

Rudolph took the starting reins in Week 16 and led the Steelers to three straight wins and a surprising playoff berth.
