Oregon tribes are alleging a state land-use board discounted indigenous knowledge in a recent ruling on the highly litigated Thornburgh Resort, which arose out of an earlier Deschutes County Commission decision.
The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and the Nez Perce Tribe joined the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in amicus briefs filed in Oregon’s Court of Appeals March 7. The briefs support the Confederated Tribes of Warms Springs, which joined the almost decades-long battle against the roughly 2,000-acre Thornburgh Resort last year.
