Big Something brings big sound to Bend

Sometimes it takes a band a while to develop its sound, find its footing and evolve into something special.

Take, for example, Big Something. The North Carolina band has been touring together for more than a decade and has released seven full-length studio albums together. All along, they have been eclectic and interesting, blending funk, blues, reggae, electronica, jazz and an inclination to improvise into their big ol’ arena-ready rock ‘n’ roll jams.

The band’s new album “Headspace,” however, finds Big Something at a new level. It crystallizes the band’s sound into something that’s punchier and more vivid than ever before, and all of a sudden you can totally picture this rising success story from the American Southeast becoming one of the country’s next big jam bands.

Big Something, with The Ries Brothers: 8 p.m. Thursday, doors open 7 p.m., $18, Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend, volcanictheatre.com.
