It’s another packed week at Volcanic Theatre Pub in Bend, with Finnish bluegrass-rock hybridizers Steve ‘n’ Seagulls taking the stage Friday night, tech house DJ Nightfunk headlining Saturday, pop-leaning country dude Sam Outlaw on Sunday and Seattle garage-psych band Acid Tongue playing the venue on Monday.
But first, Thursday evening brings in the grooviest show of the week: Jennifer Hartswick, a celebrated singer, trumpeter and original member of the Trey Anastasio Band. But Hartswick is no jam-bander; her music is a high-energy mix of jazz and soul that’s often irresistibly upbeat and heavily influenced by the sounds of New Orleans.
Blessed with a big voice and buckets full of charisma, Hartswick has recorded or shared the stage with huge names like Herbie Hancock, Phish, Tom Petty, Aaron Neville, Carlos Santana, Dave Matthews, Christian Mc and more. In Bend, she’ll be backed by her band, which includes members of soul favorites The Nth Power.
Jennifer Hartswick Band, with Wreckless Strangers: 8 p.m. Thursday, doors open 7:30 p.m., $20, Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend, volcanictheatre.com.
