It took four pitches for the Oregon State baseball team to show that Tuesday night would be special.

And not just special, but record-setting.

Travis Bazzana and Mason Guerra etched their names in the OSU record book and the Beavers bashed their way to another dominant victory, 14-3, over the Portland Pilots at Joe Etzel Field.

Guerra belted three home runs, tying the Oregon State single-game record, and Bazzana set the program’s all-time record for runs scored as the second-ranked Beavers (18-2) punked the Pilots (10-8) in a midweek matchup in Portland.

Guerra hit a two-run homer in the third inning, a three-run blast in the fourth and a solo shot in the sixth, part of a career night that saw him finish 3 for 5 with a career-high six RBIs and four runs scored. He became the third Oregon State player to slug three homers in a game, joining Jacob Melton (2021) and Andy Jarvis (2001).

The 6-foot-3 junior doubled his home run total for the season, ending the night with a .329 average, six homers and 24 RBIs.

And he did not have the only historic performance in Portland.

Bazzana had another monster night in what is shaping up to be a special season, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. The Golden Spikes Award candidate set the tone for the memorable performance by hammering the fourth pitch of the game to deep right field for a home run.

Then, four innings later, he etched his place in the OSU record book, blasting a three-run homer to right-center in the top of the fifth. When he touched home plate, Bazzana scored for the 169th time in his OSU career, passing former Madras High star Jacoby Ellsbury (168) for most in program history.

The junior from Sydney, Australia, is now batting .481 with 10 homers, 30 RBIs and 30 runs scored this season.

The Beavers open a three-game series against the Washington Huskies at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.
