- “Mirror Pond,” oil by David Kreitzer, is on display at the Kreitzer Art Gallery and Studio in Bend.
First Friday Art Walk: An opportunity for residents and visitors to stroll around town and chat with local artists and makers, to learn about their creative process and to expand their creative community — will look a little different this week, with an emphasis on youth. A few different galleries will have receptions for their new art on display and many businesses will have local young artists’ works up as part of the Youth Art Takeover. Pop art icon Andy Warhol’s “Endangered Species” portfolio is also leaving the High Desert Museum this weekend.
Youth Art Takeover
Bend-La Pine student artists will have work on display at multiple locations and businesses around town. Works span various mediums, styles and themes. The collection includes Scholastic Art & Writing Award winning works, and there will be an awards ceremony on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at The Commons Cafe courtyard.
Scalehouse Gallery, which will have some of the young artists’ works on display in its Annex, also has a large-scale, site-specific sculptural landscape piece, “Mt Pile,” by Nan Curtis, on display at its main gallery.
Awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday; free; The Commons Cafe and Taproom courtyard, 875 NW Brooks St., Bend; 541-323-3955. Reception 5-7 p.m. Friday; free; The Annex — A Scalehouse Project, 550 NW Franklin Ave., lobby, Bend; scalehouse.org or 541-640-2186.
Kreitzer Gallery and Studio
Longtime Central Oregon artist David Kreitzer has his gallery open for First Friday and through the weekend. Much of the contemporary realist painter’s works focus on his love of nature, which propels him to create scenes centered around water, landscapes, fantasy, Nishigoi Koi and floral studies. They ask visitors to text ahead. Friday through Sunday 1-6 p.m.; free; Kreitzer Art Gallery and Studio, 20214 Archie Briggs Road, Bend; dkreitzer.com or 805-234-2048.
Landscapes in Oil at Sage
High Desert Art League, Plein Air Painters of Oregon, Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society member Janet Frost will be showing her landscape oil paintings. Living on the Deschutes River near Sunriver, Frost said the wildlife, forest, river and mountains provide her with unlimited inspiration.
“I am a representational artist, but my foremost goal in creating a painting is to capture a moment in time,” Frost said in a press release. “I hope to convey the atmosphere, mood and emotional response that I felt when experiencing it.” Reception 4-6 p.m. on Friday; Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday noon-4 p.m.; 834 NW Brooks St., Bend; sageframing-gallery.com or 541-382-5884.
