Greenwood Avenue goes on a ‘road diet’ for safety; public input requested

The city of Bend is inviting community members to an open house Tuesday, April 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the City Council chambers to learn about the first phase of the Midtown Multimodal Connections and Streetscaping project that will promote safety improvements to Greenwood Avenue.

The community is encouraged to share ongoing concerns about safety along Greenwood, from Wall Street to NE Second Street. Community members can also provide feedback on preliminary designs that would temporarily change a section of Greenwood Avenue from four lanes to three.

This “road diet,” as the city termed it, would allow for quick, low-cost improvements based on community feedback and serve as a testing ground for which safety approach is the best option, long term. Permanent changes are expected to conclude in the summer or fall.

The next phase in the project will be safety improvements along Second Street, followed by Franklin Avenue, and Hawthorne Street overcrossing. These phases will also have opportunities for public feedback.

The public can provide feedback at this online open house as well.
