- Soul giant Booker T. Jones will play the Tower Theatre Sunday.
If you’re a fan of, oh, the past half-century of rock ‘n’ roll, there’s a lot for you at Bend’s Tower Theatre over the next couple of months.
On Thursday, the historic venue will host a Beach Boys tribute act. On Friday, the popular Pink Floyd tribute Pigs on the Wing will perform at the Tower. Next month’s schedule includes an Eagles tribute on May 1, Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock ‘n’ Roll revue on May 16 and Zepparella, the all-female Led Zeppelin tribute, on May 30.
You can learn more about any of those shows and buy tickets at towertheatre.org.
For now, though, let’s focus on a true musical legend as opposed to people simply singing the songs of legends. On Sunday night, soul-music icon and giant of the Hammond B3 organ Booker T. Jones will visit the Tower, bringing with him his truckload of hits, “Green Onions,” “Hang ‘Em High,” “Soul Limbo” and “Time Is Tight.”
Jones led the influential instrumental soul band Booker T. & the M.G.’s; played on tons of incredible Stax Records songs by label mates like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Bill Withers; was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. He is a pillar of popular music as we know it.
Booker T. Jones: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, doors open 6:30 p.m., $36-$62, Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall Street, Bend, towertheatre.org.
