This weekend only, OperaBend, Central Oregon’s resident opera company, performs 19th century Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, “La traviata,” bolstering its narrative with a modern interpretation. Performances will be held at Pinckney Center for the Arts at Central Oregon Community College’s Bend campus Friday through Sunday.

Set against a backdrop of glitzy Parisian society, “La traviata” tells a story of love, sacrifice and redemption.

OperaBend promises to transport audiences “to a world of passion and drama as they follow the tragic tale of Violetta and her lover, Alfredo, torn between the heart’s desires and the expectations of society.”

Directed by Jason Stein, who also performs the role of Gastone de Letorières, OperaBend’s production features principal performers Allison Pohl (Violetta Valéry), Katherine Goforth (Alfredo Germont), Zachary Lenox (Giorgio Germont), Jocelyn Claire Thomas (Flora Bervoix), Dan Gibbs (Marquis d’Obigny), Samantha Winter (Annina) and Adrian Rosales (Baron Douphol).

Maestro Michael Gesme leads the orchestra, with local performers making up the opera chorus.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday

and Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday. Pinckney Center for the Arts, Central Oregon Community College, 2600 NW College Way, Bend.

Tickets are $35, $10 for students, and are available at the door or in advance online at operabend.org.
