Oregon Ducks redesigning court at Matthew Knight Arena (e-edition asset)

The Oregon Ducks are redesigning the court at Matthew Knight Arena for the first time since it opened in 2011.

A source confirmed the news to The Oregonian/OregonLive on Wednesday night as videos and photos surfaced online of workers from the company CourtSports sanding down and replacing the old design.

This change in court design at the 12,364-seat venue could mark the end of the unique, fir tree-laden layout that was the subject of debate among fans over the years. Some decried the Ducks’ home court as unappealing or difficult to watch on TV, while others appreciated its unique appearance.

Official renderings for the court’s new design have yet to be released as of Thursday morning. It comes with a twist, too: the source indicated there will be different courts for basketball and volleyball games.
