The WNBA is moving its preseason game in Canada between the Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm to May 4. The game was originally scheduled for May 5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, but the NHL’s Oilers could potentially be hosting a Game 7 of their first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings that day.
The league is playing a preseason game in Canada for the second straight year.
TENNIS
Two-time major champion Garbiñe Muguruza has announced her retirement from professional tennis at age 30. The former world No. 1 gave her decision at a news conference Saturday in Madrid. Muguruza beat Serena Williams in the 2016 French Open final and Venus Williams in the 2017 Wimbledon final. The Spanish player earned 10 career titles and reached another two Grand Slam finals. She has not played since January 2023.
Elena Rybakina defeated top-ranked Iga Świątek 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the Porsche Grand Prix final and end Swiatek’s hopes of a third consecutive title on Saturday.
Rybakina, the world No. 4, hit 10 aces and saved 11 of the 13 break points she faced. It’s Rybakina’s fourth win in six meetings with Swiatek.
Rybakina will play Marta Kostyuk in Sunday’s final.
