UPDATE: The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Edward Alexander Baer, 32, as a result of its investigation, Sgt. Jason Wall said in a news release Tuesday. Baer was booked in the county jail shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Formal charges have yet to be filed in court. Baer was allegedly involved in a flaming RV heist near China Hat Road in December, for which he was charged with theft and felon in possession of a firearm.
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 report of a shooting Sunday near China Hat Road south of Bend, which stretches into the Deschutes National Forest, law enforcement officials said.

The caller didn’t give the 911 dispatcher any information other than someone had been shot, Jason Wall, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said in a news release.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday, sheriff’s deputies responded to the area, which is near recreational trails and long-term homeless encampments along Forest Road 18. They found out a 32-year-old man was taken to St. Charles Bend, Wall said.
The man didn’t have life-threatening injuries, but had been shot once, Wall said.
Sheriff’s deputies discovered that two men who live in the area got into a fight, Wall said. Both men, who weren’t named, pulled out their guns, and the 32-year-old man who drew his gun second was shot in the stomach and hand by the first man, Wall said.
A third person who wasn’t involved in the fight drove the shooting victim to China Hat Road where he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, Wall said.
