CORVALLIS — There was a little gamesmanship, a slew of strikeouts and a lot of celebrating. And, three days later, the good times kept rolling for Oregon State right-hander Aiden May.
The Beavers’ ace on Monday was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and earned multiple national weekly awards, a just reward for his brilliant start against the rival Oregon Ducks Friday night at Goss Stadium.
May turned in the best performance of his career, surrendering just one hit and recording a career-high 14 strikeouts, as the Beavers defeated the Ducks 2-0 in Corvallis.
“He has the potential to do that every outing with the stuff he has,” OSU closer Bridger Holmes said afterward.
Not only did he win the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week award for the first time in his career, but he also was named the national pitcher of the week by D1Baseball and Perfect Game. He improved to 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA this season. May was practically unhittable against the Ducks, allowing just four batters to reach base while throwing a career-high eight innings.
The Beavers (33-10) defeated the Ducks again 4-2 on Saturday, before falling to Oregon (29-14) 7-1 on Sunday.
