Early Friday morning, a transient man was arrested by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly assaulted a ride-share driver in Sisters and stole the vehicle, a sheriff’s news release said.

The man, 21-year-old Joshua Buck, requested a ride to Sisters from the Deschutes County Stabilization Center in Bend. The sheriff’s office would not disclose what service Buck used, but said he asked to be dropped off near the Sisters Inn and Suites. After the car came to a stop, Buck allegedly assaulted the driver, Stanley Collins, 77, and dragged him from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Buck allegedly drove the vehicle west on U.S. Highway 20 toward Santiam Pass and continued west toward Vida on state Highway 126.

At 4 a.m. Buck was located at the site of a multivehicle crash near Vida where law enforcement officers later determined he crashed the ride-share vehicle. When Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Police Department arrived at the scene, Buck was allegedly trying to steal a second vehicle from the crash scene, but the driver was able to speed away. Buck was struck in the process.

Buck was arrested and transported to an area hospital for medical care. He was then taken to the Deschutes County jail and charged with robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
