HOCKEY
The United States lost to Sweden 5-2 in its opening match at the ice hockey world championship on Friday in Prague. Joel Eriksson Ek scored twice and added an assist, and star defenseman Victor Hedman had a goal and an assist for Sweden. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves in the Group B game.
TENNIS
Novak Djokovic needed medical attention after accidentally getting knocked on the head by a water bottle after a win at the Italian Open. A man was leaning over a railing to hand Djokovic a notebook for a signature and an aluminum-type water bottle fell out of his backpack and hit the player on the top of his head. Djokovic had a bump on his head and was checked by doctors.
LPGA GOLF
Rose Zhang was threatening to run away with the Cognizant Founders Cup and end Nelly Korda’s bid for a record sixth straight win on the LPGA Tour. Zhang followed a tournament record-tying opening round of 63 with a morning-best 4-under 68 Friday and moved to 13-under 131. Madelene Sagstrom tied her for the overall lead after a 66.
Korda also fired a 66 and was in third, four strokes back at the midpoint.
