- Participants in the Young Women's Natural Resource Career Camp listen to U.S. Forest Service fisheries biologist Wendy Brewer and members of a stream survey crew as they share stories about their career paths and skills at Wildcat Campground in the Ochoco National Forest outside Prineville in August.
Applications are open for the Young Women’s Natural Resources Career Day Camp, which will take place Aug. 20-23. Run by Deschutes National Forest and Discover Your Forest, the camp will take place in the national forest west of Sunriver.
Girls entering grades 10 through 12 are invited to apply. Female professionals from the Forest Service and Discover Your Forest will mentor and supervise campers as they learn about specialties and careers in natural resources. This includes careers in forestry, wildlife biology, recreation, fisheries and wildland fire.
The camp is intended to introduce 15 young women to careers in natural resources. It is free to those living in the region, and meals, transportation and equipment are included.
Priority applications will be accepted through May 31. Applications can be completed online at Discover Your Forest’s website.
