Oregon State and Oregon are shelving their women’s basketball series for at least a year, the first time the two schools haven’t faced each other since the Beavers began a program in 1976.

OSU coach Scott Rueck said that he didn’t plan to play the Ducks in a nonconference game this upcoming season.

Oregon State and Oregon have been part of the same conference since the 1977-78 season. But with the demise of the Pac-12 last August, Oregon moves to the Big Ten and OSU to the West Coast Conference in the 2024-25 season.

Since last fall, Rueck has said it had to make sense to play the Ducks in a nonconference game. He reiterated that stance Thursday, saying it didn’t make sense to play Oregon this upcoming season.

Rueck didn’t say whether he’d entertain playing Oregon in future season. Rueck added that he hasn’t talked to Ducks coach Kelly Graves about playing a nonconference game.

Oregon State swept the season series from Oregon this past season, and has won four of the past five games against the Ducks. Oregon leads the series 64-42.

Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes said earlier this year that except for football, he’s leaving it up to his coaches to decide who they want to play in nonconference games. That includes Oregon.
