Lisa Birk was named the new deputy superintendent for Bend-La Pine Schools, the district announced. She will start July 1, replacing Lora Nordquist, who is retiring after 16 years with the district.
Birk, the current executive director of elementary programs, has been with the district for 17 years. Before her current role, she was the principal at Bear Creek Elementary and at Pacific Crest Middle School. Birk was also the assistant principal at both schools.
As deputy superintendent, Birk will support the planning and coordination of districtwide educational programs. Those programs include increasing elementary-level literacy and ensuring students find post-graduation success.
βI feel lucky to have been part of Bend-La Pine Schools for so many years, and I believe in the work we do each day for students,β Birk said in a prepared statement. βIt is an honor to move into this role, and I look forward to continuing to serve the students, staff and families of Bend, La Pine and Sunriver.β
