Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District and Sisters Ranger District firefighters will conduct two prescribed burn operations Wednesday near Bend and Sisters.
Four miles southwest of Bend, firefighters plan to ignite 300 acres south of the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station, adjacent to the east side of Forest Road 41 and west of the Deschutes River. Ignitions are planned for 10 a.m. and smoke will be visible from Bend and the surrounding areas.
Near Sisters, firefighters will burn up to 290 acres four miles northwest of Sisters on the east side of U.S. Highway 20 just south of Indian Ford Campground. Ignition will also begin around 10 a.m. and flames may be visible from Highway 20. Smoke will be seen in Sisters, Indian Ford Road, Stevens Canyon and Cascade Meadows.
Residents in Bend, Sunriver, La Pine and Redmond, Sisters and surrounding areas are advised to keep doors and windows closed. Smoke impacts will most likely be seen throughout the day into Thursday morning.
The prescribed burn near Bend will cause closures to many popular recreation sites:
- Lava Island Day Use River Access
- Big Eddy Day Use River Access
- Aspen Day Use River Access
- Deschutes River Trail between Meadow Day Use Area and Dillon Falls
- One Hour Horse Trail
- Two Hour Horse Trail
- Catch and Release between Cascade Lakes Highway and Storm King Junction
- Forest Road 41 and all roads on the east side of Forest Road 41 between Cascade Lakes Highway and Dillon Falls
- Storm King Trailhead parking
No closures are expected for the prescribed burn near Sisters.
