The Bend Elks are set to open their 2024 season on Friday at 6:35 p.m. against the Walla Walla (Wash.) Sweets at Bend’s Vince Genna Stadium.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and are available at bendelks.com or at the gate. The first 250 fans will receive a free Bend Elks magnet schedule.
Friday is the first game of a three-game series against the Sweets. The Elks will also host them on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. and Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
The Elks’ first six games are at home. Next week, they host the Corvallis Knights Tuesday through Thursday, with all games slated to start at 6:35 p.m. The Knights have won seven consecutive West Coast League championships.
The WCL is billed as the West’s premier summer collegiate baseball league. Encompassing Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta, the WCL showcases pro prospects from collegiate conferences throughout the country.
Last year the Elks finished 25-29, in fifth place in the WCL South Division, and missed out on the playoffs. The regular season runs through Aug. 8, with WCL playoffs set to start on Aug. 10.
The Elks won their first and only WCL championship in 2015.
The Elks have yet to release their 2024 roster, but they typically have several players from colleges throughout the Northwest, including Oregon State and the University of Oregon. A recent WCL news release highlighted one Bend Elks player, left-handed pitcher Wyatt Navara, who appeared in 13 games for Michigan this past season.
Major League Baseball opening day rosters earlier this spring included two players who previously played for the Bend Elks: Seth Brown, an outfielder and first baseman for the Oakland A’s, and Nicky Lopez, a second baseman for the Chicago White Sox.
