Editor’s desk: Tell us what construction projects you want to know about

It’s construction season in Bend.

Some might argue it’s always construction season in Bend, but we notice an uptick when the weather warms. Road construction projects kick into high gear, cranes add stories to buildings already underway and long-hyped developments break ground or otherwise see progress.

Here at The Bulletin we are always looking for ways we can inform our audience about important road construction that could complicate your commute or about housing and other construction projects around town, across town or even outside of town.

Here are a few recent examples:

What’s going up: This 186-unit apartment complex in Bend opens soon

Stevens Ranch library breaks ground, will nearly double library collection

New Bend Costco plans to open in late August, hire additional staff

Commuters rejoice! Wilson Avenue Corridor Project complete

In the coming months, we will continue reporting on how the Highway 97 reroute project is shaping up on Bend’s north end, a massive new housing development east of 27th Street, and progress on big construction projects already underway.

Our reporting serves several purposes. It keeps you up to date on developments in your community, for one thing. It also holds powerful institutions accountable, such as the city of Bend when scrutiny of its $10 million tax break to the company behind the Jackstraw development near the Old Mill caused the city to pause its tax break program.

Of course, we couldn’t do this work without your support. Please consider subscribing to The Bulletin to keep our team digging through city building permits and planning documents, knocking on ODOT’s office doors and documenting Bend’s growth and development as it happens.

Have a question about a construction project we haven’t reported on? Let us know by emailing news@bendbulletin.com.
