A 53-year-old Crescent man was killed Friday morning when his pickup truck drifted off the shoulder of U.S. Highway 97 north of La Pine, struck a roadway sign, several trees and rolled onto its roof. 

Robert Patrick Conway was declared dead at the scene when Oregon State Police responded at 8:24 a.m. Friday to the crash site, located about 10 miles north of La Pine near Sugarpine Butte Road. 

A preliminary investigation found that Conway, driving a Toyota Tacoma, drifted off the northbound shoulder of the highway for unknown reasons.  

The highway was not affected during the on-scene investigation.
