- Caldera’s Campbell McKean broke OSAA state records in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke in February at the state swimming championships in Beaverton.
Two swimmers from Bend are set to compete in the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials for a shot at qualifying for the Paris Games.
The U.S. trials are scheduled for Saturday through June 23 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Paris Olympics are July 26-Aug. 11.
Diggory Dillingham, a former state champion for Mountain View High School, will compete in the men’s 50-meter freestyle.
Campbell McKean, a state champion from Caldera who will be a senior next year, will compete in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.
Both swimmers have competed for the Bend Swim Club, and both are committed to swim collegiately for the University of Southern California.
Dillingham plans to begin his college career in the 2024-25 NCAA season, after a gap year this year to train for the Olympic trials.
The men’s 50-freestyle heats and semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, with the final set for Friday.
Dillingham’s seed time of 22.48 seconds is ranked 30th among the 88 swimmers in the 50 freestyle at the trials.
McKean still has another year of high school but he already owns the OSAA state records in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. McKean’s mother, Becky McKean, swam in the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials as a senior at Mountain View.
Becky McKean was a four-time state champion who swam collegiately for Arizona.
The men’s 100 breaststroke heats and semifinals are set for Saturday, with the final scheduled for Sunday. McKean’s seed time of 1:02.13 is ranked 79th among 87 swimmers in the event at the trials.
The men’s 200 individual medley heats and semifinals are set for Thursday, with the final on Friday. McKean’s seed time of 2:03.07 is ranked 76th among 99 swimmers in the event.
The U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials are scheduled to air on Peacock, USA and NBC.
