Muscadine Bloodline returns to General Duffy’s in Redmond

Muscadine Bloodline is a country duo from Alabama.

One of my favorite songs of the past few years is the title track from “Teenage Dixie,” the 2023 album by Muscadine Bloodline, a duo from Alabama that makes some of the best not-quite-mainstream country going these days.

“Teenage Dixie” (the song) kicks off “Teenage Dixie” (the album) with a bang, combining big melodic hooks and a tale of small-town regret into what I’d consider a perfect — or close to it, at least — country song. It’s got all the elements you’d expect — a Ford truck, a pretty woman, high school sports heroics, a blue-collar job, a two-beer buzz — but they’re put together in a way that is interesting, unexpected and more aligned with real life than a lot of contemporary country songs.

Muscadine Bloodline is no one-hit wonder, either. The rest of “Teenage Dixie” is full of excellent tunes that blend arena-ready ‘90s country with the band’s fierce independent streak, which has driven them to release all their albums via their own label. That’s pretty cool, and worthy of your attention and support!

Muscadine Bloodline, with Cody Canada & The Departed and Austin Lindstrom: 5 p.m. Sunday, doors open 4 p.m., $35 adults, $25 children, General Duffy’s Waterhole, 404 SW Forest Ave., Redmond, generalduffys.com.
