The Redmond School Board is asking voters to approve a $97 million bond measure to improve buildings and safety across the district.
The board on Wednesday unanimously agreed to put the bond on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
With the 2020 bond measure wrapping up work this summer at various schools, the future measure would finance necessary work in the district such as repairing Redmond High’s failing heating and cooling system, according to school district officials.
Because Redmond High would need to be closed for the work to be done, the district floated the idea of permanently merging Redmond and Ridgeview high schools. After community feedback, the district committed to keeping Redmond High School open after repairs are made. The bond measure would pay for the necessary repairs so the school can continue to remain open.
The bond measure would also expand Tumalo Community School to a K-8 and improve the entrance at Ridgeview High School to ensure security. It would also invest in energy efficiency projects, update various systems across the district and remodel spaces for vocational training and extracurricular activities.
