From the editor’s desk: The Bulletin is changing

Published 5:21 pm Friday, June 28, 2024

As many of you know already, The Bulletin is experiencing some changes brought on by a difficult business climate for media companies. We are adapting as best we can and in ways we hope will continue to serve you with the kind of news reporting you’ve come to rely on.

We previously announced layoffs that affected part of our newsroom staff, among others companywide. But we wanted to make sure we kept you informed about upcoming changes to our print and digital publications as well.

Q: What changes are being made to The Bulletin’s print editions?

A: We will be combining the Saturday and Sunday print editions into one weekend edition that will be delivered via U.S. Postal Service on Saturdays. This means you will receive all the content you love from both days in a single edition each weekend — and you won’t have to wait until the Monday mail for delivery of your Sunday paper.

Q: What will the new weekend edition be like?

A: The new weekend edition will include all the content you have come to expect from both the Saturday and Sunday editions. This includes in-depth news coverage, features, sports, opinions and more. Additionally, all the weekend comics and puzzles will be included in this single edition, so you won’t miss out on any of your favorite sections.

Q: Will there be any other changes to The Bulletin’s print editions?

A: Yes. Starting July 11 our GO! magazine will expand to also include the stories you usually find in Friday’s Explore section.

Q: What is happening to the Monday e-edition?

A: Starting July 8, we will be eliminating the Monday e-edition. We understand that many readers rely on the Monday edition for certain information, so we are taking steps to ensure that the most popular content from the Monday edition remains accessible.

Q: How will I access the information that used to appear in the Monday e-edition?

A: We will be preserving all the Data Center material, such as building permits and deeds, that used to appear in the Monday e-edition. This content is available in an online Data Center on our website. This way, you can still access this important information at your convenience.

Q: Why is The Bulletin making these changes?

A: The media industry has been facing significant financial challenges. Over the past year, we have seen a decline in advertising revenues and an increase in operating expenses. These changes are necessary to stabilize our operations and ensure the continuity of our publications. By consolidating print editions, we can reduce costs while continuing to provide comprehensive coverage.

Q: How can readers support The Bulletin during this time?

A: One of the best ways to support The Bulletin is by subscribing and encouraging others to do the same. Subscriptions are crucial for the sustainability of quality journalism. Additionally, spreading the word about the importance of local news and the need to support it can make a big difference.

We understand that these changes may take some getting used to, and we appreciate your understanding and support. Our commitment to serving you, our readers, remains unwavering, and we are confident that these adjustments will allow us to continue delivering the high-quality journalism you expect and deserve.
