A 24-year-old Prineville man died after he drifted into the other lane and struck another car on state Highway 126 between Redmond and Powell Butte on Friday morning.
Humberto Ruiz Vargas was driving a Honda Civic west near Powell Butte Highway when he overcorrected when making a left-hand turn, according to Oregon State Police. He drifted into the eastbound lane and was hit by a Nissan Rogue driven by Summer Anne Zimmerman.
Zimmerman, 39, of Redmond, and her passenger, Harley Isaacson, 22, were both severely injured and transported to a local hospital that state police did not identify.
Vargas was taken by air ambulance to an unidentified local hospital, where he was declared dead.
