Editorial: Ask candidates about climate change

Former Gov. Kate Brown kind of dodged Republicans in the Legislature when she used an executive order to tell state agencies to establish regulations to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Republicans had walked out to block bills, including some aimed at carbon reduction.

Now that the regulations that Brown set in motion will soon solidify, Republican legislators are saying the new regulations are going to contribute to rising electricity costs and that legislators, not state agencies should set up the programs, as OPB reported.

Ask candidates running for the Legislature how they think Oregon should tackle climate action. It may not be the dominant issue in the next legislative session. It will be one of them.
