- An Oregon State Police car blocks off the road at an accident scene in 2018.
An 88-year-old Madras man was killed in a car crash Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 26 north of Madras when his car was struck after turning onto the highway.
Robert Carroll Towler was declared dead at the scene, according to Oregon State Police, who responded at 9:11 a.m. An investigation indicated Towler, driving a Ford Escape, made a right turn to travel west on Highway 26, crossing the path of a GMC Sierra pickup, which struck Towler’s car on the driver’s side door as it entered the highway, according to a news release.
The crash occurred at the intersection with NW Columbia Drive, about halfway between Madras and Warm Springs. Highway traffic was affected for 3½ hours while police investigated.
The driver of the pickup truck, Donald Michael Stucky, 59, of West Linn, was not injured in the crash. Two passengers, Nesja Stucky, 57, and Maia Stucky, 22, sustained minor injuries, while a third passenger, Gavin Pilant, 21, was uninjured.
