14 people in Oregon now believed to have died of excessive heat

The death toll from the record-setting heat wave in Oregon grew Thursday to 14 people in six counties, with most of the deaths coming in the Portland metro area.
The latest deaths to be reported were an 87-year-old man who died in Hillsboro, a 73-year-old woman who died in Beaverton, a 27-year-old man who died in Klamath County, a 55-year-old man who died in Jackson County and a 56-year-old man who died in Linn County, according to the state medical examiner.
All of the people have died from suspected heat-related issues, health authorities said, but the designations are preliminary and medical examiners have yet to confirm the exact causes.
Nine others have died since Friday, when a days-long heat wave hit Oregon.

- A 55-year-old man in Jackson County on July 10
- An 87-year-old man in Hillsboro on July 10
- A 56-year-old man in Linn County on July 10
- A 73-year-old woman in Beaverton on July 10
Temperatures in Portland dropped Wednesday into the low 90s, but a heat advisory remains in place through Saturday in southwestern Oregon, including the Rogue Valley, Applegate Valley and Illinois Valley, as well as areas east of the Cascades.
In 2021, a heat dome killed some 100 Oregonians, including 69 in Multnomah County. Eight people died of overheating in 2022 in Multnomah County and three are suspected to have died due to heat last year.
