35 large wildfires burning in Oregon

Rain, higher humidity and cooler temperatures helped firefighters battle blazes Tuesday in the Pacific Northwest, according to federal officials.
But forecaster’s expect temperatures to climb back to the 100-degree mark Thursday and Friday and remain in the upper 90s through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
With 35 large fires burning across the state, Oregon leads the nation, the National Interagency Fire Center reported Wednesday morning. California, with 12 large fires, had the second highest number.
In Oregon, fires had burned more than 1.1 million acres, according to the agency. The largest remained the Durkee Fire, which has burned nearly 294,000 acres south of Baker City along Interstate 84. Containment had reached 52% as of Wednesday morning, according to the fire center.
