To win the Northwest Regional and advance to the Little League World Series, Bend North will have to work through the consolation round.
Bend North fell to Idaho’s West Valley Little League 6-3 Monday night in the Northwest Region semifinals in San Bernardino, California.
The U12 All-Stars from Bend will take on Washington’s South Hill Little League Wednesday at noon on ESPN. The winner will take on Idaho in the regional championship game on Thursday at 6 p.m., with that victor advancing to the Little League World Series.
For the second game in a row, Bend North scored two runs in the opening inning on Monday night. Singles from shortstop Cael Miranda, pitcher Micah Gylling and center fielder Chase Johnson to start the game set the stage to bring home two runs. Bend North scored on an error, and third baseman Mosi Montgomery brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.
But Idaho responded with three runs in the second inning to retake the lead. Branden Hartnett singled to drive home two then a passed ball gave Idaho a 3-2 lead.
Bend North tied the game 3-3 in the second inning when left fielder Rowen Dusan brought home Tyler Griego on a sacrifice fly.
But Idaho scored in both the fourth and sixth innings to retake and extend its lead.
Gylling gave up one earned run in four innings of work on the mound, while striking out eight Idaho batters. Miranda led the team with three hits.
On Saturday night, Bend North defeated Alaska’s Abbott-O-Rabbit Little League 6-2 in the opening game of the Northwest Regional.
Both first baseman Cade Craveiro and Montgomery came up with two-RBI hits — Craveiro with a two-run double in the first inning and Montgomery with a two-run single in the fourth — to send Bend North to the regional semifinal, where it fell to Idaho.
Now, Bend North must win two-straight games to advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Aug. 14-25.
