A small fire burns Sunday near Empire Avenue and the Bend Parkway. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, which burned about one-quarter acre.

Bend Fire & Rescue put out a small brush fire along Empire Avenue, near the northbound onramp to the Bend Parkway, on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was contained with the assistance of the U.S. Forest Service and the Oregon Department of Forestry at a quarter of an acre. The cause is still under investigation.

The brush fire briefly stopped train traffic along the Burlington North Santa Fe Railway and closed Empire Avenue and the northbound onramp for a short time. No structures were threatened.
