McTuff brings funk, soul and jazz to Worthy Brewing

McTuff plays Sunday at Worthy Brewing in Bend.

Worthy Brewing’s never-ending cavalcade of musical good times continues this week with shows by Kelcey Lassen, the Summit Express Jazz Band and Monkey Mode, among others. Visit worthybrewing.com for more information on these and all concerts at the brewery on Bend’s east side.

And let’s take a moment here to highlight Sunday night’s McTuff show at Worthy. Led by Joe Doria — a top-shelf player of the Hammond B3 organ — the Seattle-based band plays a blend of instrumental funk, soul and jazz that is deeply groovy, technically impressive, wildly ambitious and, sometimes, downright weird. It’s a beautiful thing.

Even better: Joining Doria in Bend will be legendary saxophonist Skerik, best known for his work in bands like Critters Buggin and Garage A Trois.

McTuff has played all over the country, from Bumbershoot in Seattle to the famous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Seeing them for free on an easily accessible stage close to your home? That might just be the live-music value of the summer.

McTuff: 7-9 p.m. Sunday, free, Worthy Brewing, 495 NE Bellevue Drive, Bend, worthybrewing.com.
