A new edition of the High Desert Food Trail was released this month, adding new culinary experiences to the self-guided map of farms, restaurants, craft food, beverage makers and lodging.
Additions to the food trail include Lazy Z Ranch Wines’ regenerative bee farm in Sisters, downtown Bend’s Wild Petals Provisions and Bonta Gelato, said Andrea Smith, agricultural support manager at High Desert Food & Farm Alliance (HDFFA).
The map highlights Central Oregon businesses that source from, sell to or collaborate. Tumalo Lavender, a working lavender farm, adds local flavor to products by Funky Fauna Artisan Ales, Lazy Z Ranch and Bonta. Artisan market Arome in Redmond recently held a cooking class on mocktails and salads in collaboration with Schilling’s Garden Market, according to a press release.
The partnerships showcase Central Oregon’s circular economy of businesses supporting each other, Smith said.
Eateries listed on the map include Bend’s Dump City Dumplings, Wild Rye at Brasada Ranch, Terra Kitchen at the SCP Redmond Hotel and Twisted Teepee food cart in Warm Springs, which serves Indian fry bread with huckleberry butter.

To be included on the map, businesses must have a required percentage of locally-produced products for sale, dependent on the type of business. For agricultural operations, 75% of goods must be produced locally, Smith said.
Find the map online or at visitor centers across Oregon, participating High Desert Food Trail businesses or at HDFFA’s booth at farmers’ markets.
The map was created by the High Desert Food and Farm Alliance in collaboration with Travel Oregon and Visit Central Oregon and funded by the USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program grant.
