Pirámides’ psychedelic journey from Mexico to Bend

Often, when you see a rock band described using the prefix “psych-” that just means they have some cool effects pedals for their guitars and they know how to use them. Just because you crank up the reverb doesn’t necessarily make your music psychedelic, however.

And then there are bands like Pirámides, a trio from Monterrey, Mexico, who are psychedelic in a truly freaky way. We’re talking free-range rock ’n’ roll, improvisation, experimental music, weird jazz, pulsing electronics, avant garde pop and beyond.

Led by Patricio Coronado, Pirámides is often on the road, spreading their odd gospel in whatever space will have them. Next week, that’s Open Space Event Studios on Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Bend. Maybe the opening slot for Dave Matthews Band that night at Hayden Homes Amphitheater was already taken!

Pirámides, with The Bangers: 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, doors open 8:30 p.m., $5, Open Space Event Studios, 220 NE Lafayette Ave., Bend, openspace.studio.
