- Gary Hewitt, Bend’s St. Vincent de Paul executive director, at a homeless village under construction in Bend in 2021.
Gary Lee Hewitt, former executive director of non-profit St. Vincent de Paul, was arraigned Friday after he was arrested last week for allegedly possessing “commercial quantities” of methamphetamines within his Redmond home.
Hewitt, 58, was indicted in Deschutes County Circuit Court on two charges: unlawful possession of methamphetamines and delivering methamphetamines within 1,000 feet of a school. His case was also combined with earlier charges of failing to report as a sex offender earlier this year in conjunction with a 2011 conviction for encouraging child sex abuse.
Hewitt’s bail was set for $250,000, and he may be released upon the conditions that he does not leave the state and keeps in touch with his attorney. A plea hearing for Hewitt’s case is set for Sept. 19.
