A head-on collision killed a driver who veered into oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 20 west of Sisters on Tuesday morning.

According to Oregon State Police, Scarlett Jewell Felder, 18, of Klamath Falls, was driving a Tesla east just west of Suttle Lake when she crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Jeep Wagoneer traveling west. The Jeep’s driver, 65-year-old Michel Phillipe Sabourin of Naples, Florida, tried to swerve into the slow lane but was unsuccessful, police said.

The Jeep held three other passengers: Stephanie Anne Warren of West Linn, Parker David Warren of West Linn and Holly Skye Ross of San Diego. They were treated for minor to moderate injuries.

The highway was at a standstill for about 3.5 hours during an investigation by Oregon State Police, who found speed was the primary reason for the crash.
