- Margo Price will play the annual Bigstock fundraising concert Saturday at Hoodoo Ski Area.
Longtime lovers of music in Central Oregon may remember the early days of Bigstock, which featured local bands playing in local backyards to raise money for Oregon Adaptive Sports, a nonprofit that provides outdoor recreation experiences for individuals with disabilities.
These days, Bigstock is a significantly bigger event. In recent years it has hosted famous names like the Grateful Dead’s Bobby Weir, Bruce Hornsby, G. Love & Special Sauce and Los Lobos. Also, it has moved to Hoodoo Ski Area, where it can accommodate thousands of attendees.
This year’s Bigstock happens this weekend, and the headliners are rad: The popular jamgrass band Greensky Bluegrass will play Friday night, followed by alt-country artist Margo Price and blues-jam all-star band Oteil & Friends, featuring Oteil Burbidge, Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock and more.
Big ups to the Bigstock crew for growing this thing in a sustainable way. That’s one heck of a weekend, music-wise!
Three more things to know: Overnight parking passes are available. There will be free after-shows both nights in the Hoodoo lounge. And this year’s Bigstock benefits not only Oregon Adaptive Sports, but also Cascadia Wildlands, which defends and restores the region’s wild ecosystems in the forests, the courts and the streets.
• Friday: Greensky Bluegrass, with GBots and the Journeymen and Banshee Tree, 4 p.m., doors open 2 p.m., $75.
• Saturday: Margo Price and Oteil & Friends, with Bon Bon Vivant, 3 p.m., doors open 1 p.m., $125.
