Drug bust uncovers $35K in illegal psilocybin

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people and cited two more after a search on Aug. 29 of properties in Bend and La Pine uncovered what police are calling a black market marijuana and psilocybin growing operation.
More than 5 pounds of processed marijuana, 461 marijuana plants and 23 pounds of processed psilocybin mushrooms were seized.

The sheriff’s office Illegal Marijuana Market Enforcement Team arrested Kaleb Ryan Beckwith, 34, and Madison Woods, 28, on suspicion of unlawful manufacture of marijuana and the manufacture/possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance. They were both lodged in the Deschutes County jail. Sean Edward Berroth, 36, and Laura M. Koestner, 38, were issued criminal citations for alleged attempted manufacturing of a controlled substance.
The drug bust happened at 8 a.m. when sheriff’s deputies served search warrants at locations in the 52000 block of Ponderosa Way in La Pine and in the 55000 block of Osprey Road in Bend.
The psilocybin was valued by the sheriff’s office at over $35,000. No value was listed for the processed marijuana or the unprocessed plants. Authorities believe both the marijuana and psilocybin were intended for sale on the black market.
