- The Cascades Lakes Welcome Station on Century Drive serves as a gateway to the mountains and provides information for visitors.
An Oregon State University tree ecologist will share his research on impacts of fire on Bend’s forests from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station.
Discover Your Forest, a nonprofit environmental organization, the Deschutes National Forest and OSU-Extension’s Fire Program are hosting the walk and talk event featuring Andrew Merschel, a postdoctoral fellow working with the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station and Oregon State University.
Merschel uses tree rings to examine forest development over time. He applies these studies to identify fire history in Bend’s west-side forests.
His work includes how fires and forest management have changed forest ecosystems throughout the Pacific Northwest.
